Conservatorship and
Guardianship
Is one of your loved ones unable to care for themselves or manage their finances due to physical or mental limitations? A conservatorship may be necessary.
Is there a child who is in need of someone other than their parent(s) to maintain custody of them? A guardianship may be in order.
Conservatorships and Guardianships are serious issues and require legal assistance, as well as the participation of the court. SLOLAF can assist low-income SLO County residents in assessing the need for a conservatorship or guardianship of the person, however we cannot assist with matters involving property, or the estate, of the person or child. If it is determined that a conservatorship or guardianship of the person is necessary, SLOLAF can assist with the required forms and represent the petitioner with the court. In all cases, SLOLAF will be mindful of the rights and dignity of the conservatee or child.
Call SLOLAF at (805) 543-5140 to find out if you are eligible for our services. Please be prepared to explain your situation and why you believe a conservatorship or guardianship is necessary for a member of your family or other individual.
